“Are we going to die here?” asked the boy.
“No.
I won’t let it happen.” Beads of sweat formed on Victor’s forehead, and blood dripped from his arm.
Seeing that sof his blood was about to drip on Joey’s body again, he loosened his grip on the boy’s wrist and leaned back slightly.
“Close your eyes and cover your ears.
Don’t move.
And don’t worry.
You’re not going to die.”
Joey couldn’t resist the urge to wipe the liquid off his face anymore.

And its stench was overpowering.
The boy forced himself to calm down and clenched his fists.
“But you’re bleeding.”
“Has anyone ever told you that children shouldn’t be talking so much?”
Victor asked.
He frowned, glanced at his watch, and began to reformulate his original plan.
“No,” Joey responded seriously.
“But Mommy has taughtnot to turn a blind eye when others are in danger.”
A faint smile appeared on Victor’s lips.
“Then, how will you save me?”
“I.” Joey subconsciously reached for the watch on his own wrist.
He wanted to say that he could certainly
save Victor.
If he willed it, he could tamper with the system of those cars and make them stop working within just thirty seconds.
However, he couldn’t feel the watch on his wrist.
It turned out that he had left it in the hotel, and hadn’t brought it back with him.
Victor pressed his palm against his head and rubbed it.
“Don’t worry, boy.
Nobody can killunless I let them.

I’ll handle this.”
“Really?”
The comfort and security provided by Victor rendered Joey unable to suppress his emotions any longer.
His usually calm and collected facade had been torn off, revealing the true face of a three-year-old boy.
“Trust me.”
“Mommy said that adults shouldn’t lie.
Otherwise, their noses will grow longer,” Joey remarked.
“I’ll close my eyes, okay? But don’t you lie to me!”
Victor chuckled.
“Why do you trust your mommy so much?” he asked.
Joey fell into silence yet again.
He pressed his lips and said nothing.
