Chapter 308

Fortunately, Donna still had another choice. With that thought, a steely resolve returned to her eyes, and she

gave Yasmine one last look. "You better hope things turn out for you," Donna said.

Inside an affordable dwelling in Shantyville, Soucrity, Bonnie walked in carrying her child to the room where her

lover stayed. "I'll get the money soon, and then we can leave Soucrity, okay?" she pleaded earnestly. The man

gave a nonchalant nod and replied, "Sure, Bonnie, we'll have a nice life together as a family. Did they mention

when you'd receive the money?"

Bonnie hesitated and said, "They mentioned we have to wait until Yasmine's downfall. I think it'll happen soon."

With an arm draped over Bonnie's shoulder, the man said with a sly grin, "Darling, it was clever of you to come

up with this scheme, and good for us your ex-husband is such a fool."

Bonnie felt uneasy hearing that. "Don't talk about him like that. In the end, it's really us who wronged him." Still,

considering the nature of looking out for oneself, she just wanted a better life for her child.

"Alright, alright, | won't say anything more. But this place is really too rundown. Can't | return and live with you,

honey? After all, Abel's already moved out."

Bonnie shook her head. "Not right now. The neighbors are keeping an eye on us. We just got divorced, and if | let

you move in, people will start talking." Feeling a bit down, the man looked away. "Alright then."

Bonnie didn't linger; she quickly took her child and left. Less than half an hour later, a group of men kicked down

the door of the affordable dwelling. The flimsy wooden door nearly collapsed from the force.

The man nervously set down his gcontroller, glancing at the visitors while the door shook beside him.

"Corey, what brings you here?"

Corey glared fiercely. "How can you even ask when you'll pay back the money you owe me? I'll have you fed to

the dogs if

you

don't return it soon."

The man quickly raised his hands in a solemn vow, "Corey, | swear this tI'll gather the money very soon.

Trust me, just one last time."

"I've given you plenty of chances, and you're still useless. Get him!" At the man's command, his crew charged

forward, pummeling the guy until he pleaded for mercy.

Bruised and battered, the man finally caught his breath as the group departed, leaving him with just a week's

grace. Spitting out a mouthful of bloody phlegm, he snarled, "Pah! Just wait. In a few days, when | hit it big, you'll

regret it. And the only glimmer of hope in this affordable dwelling was Bonnie, who had just walked out.

At Aurelith University, as Yasmine strolled through the campus, she couldn't help but overhear the ongoing

gossip. Bonnie's revelations on the rooftop were indeed startling-a counselor and a teaching instructor caught up

in an affair.

Not far away, turning a corner into the office, Yasmine was startled fully awake by the clamor of many students

gathered outside. She fixed her gaze on the counseling office door, which was plastered with white papers

bearing indecent words: [Slut. Mistress. Bitch. Get out of Soucrity! You should Die.]

The words were scrawled in red paint; even before getting close the pungent smell assaulted her senses,

inducing a headache. Yasmine appeared composed, but her hands were clenched into fists.

A figure rushed out from behind her, tearing down all the papers with offensive words, fiercely crumpling them

together, and throwing them away. They shouted to the onlookers, "Stop staring. You all know what kind of

person Yasmine is, don't you? Don't forget who gave your theses to Ms. Langston, who invited Lena to be a

judge, and who brought hfirst place in the Dekker Competition for our university. Are you really going to

believe that woman's nonsense over the teacher who's always been there for you?" Yoselin's words made the

crowd fall silent for a moment. She wasn't wrong; Yasmine indeed made indelible contributions to the school and

them.

Sstudents quietly left the entrance, while others silently picked up the paper balls from the ground, as if

they were discreetly cleaning up for Yasmine. As the crowd dispersed, only Yasmine and Yoselin remained at the

entrance.

Yoselin fumed, "It's all because of Abel's ex-wife. If it weren't for her, none of this would have happened. And

those students, they're just so quick to believe whatever they hear. No way could Yasmine be like that."

Yasmine gave her a comforting pat on the shoulder. "Don't think too much," she said. "It's all just a scheme, and

if we fall for it, we lose," Yoselin added.

Irene's goal was to make her frightened and distressed, to break her spirit. But she was determined to show

Irene that she was unfazed and that none of this could break her.

In late autumn, Yonas had been asleep in the hospital room for a full day and night. When his fever finally broke,

he opened his eyes to see Irene and was puzzled as to why she was there. "Where am 1?" Yonas asked, his voice

hoarse and uncomfortable. Irene handed him a glass of water and explained, "Yonas, you fainted without even

realizing it. Luckily, someone found you and got you to the hospital."

Yonas rubbed his sore forehead. His only memory from yesterday was Yasmine telling him to leave, but he

couldn't recall how he'd fainted.

"Who broughthere?" Yonas asked, as he constantly felt like someone was calling him, yet he couldn't

remember who. Feeling awkward, Irene pretended to fetch more water. "Just someone | didn't know, probably a

passerby. | thanked him already yesterday." Yonas picked up the cup of hot water and took a sip. "Irene, don't

push this any further," he suddenly said.

Irene halted in shock, placed the thermos on the table, and sat back down, puzzled. "Yonas, | don't understand

what you're saying."

Yonas said calmly, "The things happening at school with Abel and Bonnie, you set that up, didn't you?"

Irene was startled and blurted out, "What are you talking about? | don't understand. Who are Abel and Bonnie? |

don't know them at all."

Yonas had a serious look on his face. "My team found out that you had met Bonnie twice before she even caused

trouble at Aurelith University. Are you sure you don't know her?"

Feeling a bit flustered, Irene responded, "What does that even prove? We just exchanged a few words. Are you

accusing me, Yonas? Is this about Yasmine being targeted, and you just can't let it go, so you have to step in?"

she added.

Irene's gaze grew cold, and her voice took on an icy edge, "You're still worried about her, aren't you? The issue at

Aurelith University just happened, and yet you woke up from a day-long coma only to question me. Clearly, you

knew before passing out. So why are you so concerned about her?" Irene questioned.
