Chapter 138: Severed Bond Astrid's POV I stared at Killian, my expression carefully neutral, revealing nothing of the turmoil raging within me.

I could see the desperation in his eyes as he searched my face, seeking scrack in my icy demeanor for sglimmer of warmth that he had once known, but my features were set in an impenetrable mask.

I watched as Killian's hand, which was half-raised aiming to reach for me, suddenly fell back to his side as if scorched by the frost in my gaze.

His eyes blinked with a look of longing written so plainly on his face, but I remained motionless, unwavering, unwilling to give in to the temptation.

I crossed my arms as I waited for him to say a word. He is the one who pulledout here. Is he just going to stare atall day? "H-How have you been?" Killian finally spoke in a soft, unsure voice when he saw the impatience that crossed my features.

Now that we are alone, he no longer looks like a powerful Alpha. In front of me, he looked like a man walking on eggshells, afraid that he would say the wrong thing and makeshrink away from him. Where once Killian had stood tall and unafraid, now he seemed to shrink in on himself, his shoulder hunched slightly as if trying to make himself smaller, less conspicuous.

"I heard that you've been staying at the Shadowfang Pack. I wanted to go and meet you, but you know how strict the Shadowfang Pack is. Even if I'm an Alpha, they will not letin unless I have a very important reason." Killian continued when he didn't hear a response from me.

"When I heard that you were here, I instantly grabbed the chance to meet you," Killian added, showing how much he really longs to meet me.

However, I don't feel the sway towards him. In fact, I couldn't help but feel a growing sense of confusion and unease with the way that he was behaving in front of me.

I'm not used to this kind of treatment from him. His strong and ruthless demeanor had shifted to that of a lost puppy, uncertain and fragile.

What had caused this tic change in him? "Astrid," Killian swallowed hard after he uttered my name. "Is our baby alright?" he asked with a voice thick with fear.

A tear rolled down my cheek when I heard his question. Suddenly, he is now identifying himself as the father of my baby? Sadness and bitterness crept through my heart as I remembered how Killian rejected my child as his own when my child was still alive inside of me.

Now that my child is gone, he has only turned around to recognize himself as a father.

"A-Astrid," Killian's voice stammered, and his eyes widened when he saw the tears freely falling down my cheeks. My face remained stoic.

I couldn't stop the tears from falling out of my eyes. The pain is still in there. My regrets, my heartaches, it was all there, and when triggered, the emotions that pour out ofare unstoppable.

I lifted my hand and wiped my tears away with the back of my hand. "My son is dead," I answered, my voice devoid of any recognizable emotion, as if a part ofhad died alongside him.

A leaden heaviness settled in my chest as the words hung in the air, stark and unforgiving.

A stunned silence fell over Killian as my words pierced him like a dagger to the heart.

For a moment, he was utterly paralyzed, his mind reeling, unable to process anything.

"M-my son, Killian breathed out in almost a whisper; his hands trembled as the little thing left of his resolve crumbled in an instant replaced by a raw, primal anguish that contorted his features.
