Chapter 142: Sudden Visitor Killian's POV My fingers instinctively curled into a fist when I saw Giselle coming.

What the hell is she doing here? Why did she follow me? My gaze instantly turned acrossto where Astrid was standing. However, instead of seeing her, I saw Nova instead.

I was surprised to see Nova holding the ladle and giving soup. I had no idea when Nova and Astrid had switched places.

While I was working earlier, I could feel Astrid's gaze boring intofrom tto time. It's as if she's trying to read me, scrutinizing every detail.

It tooka lot of effort to resist her gaze and to stop the urge to stare back at her.

I purposefully ignored her to grant her wish that I would never bother her again. I was afraid that if our gazes met, everything would be over for me.

I was afraid that the only resistance I had left, the little thing that I had left for myself to keep myself together without her, would suddenly vanish, and I would be left with nothing.

I've done a lot of bad things. I have hurt her, and I will only continue to hurt her if I continue to keep her by my side.

To make up for everything that I have done, I could only protect her behind the shadows.

"Alpha," one of my men rushed behind me, but I strode forward towards Giselle, letting him follow behind.

I know what he is going to say. He is just going to informthat Giselle has arrived, and I have already seen it.

I have to rush there and meet with Giselle before Astrid sees her first. I was lucky that Nova switched places with Astrid. If not, she would have seen Giselle already.

I have to make her leave before Astrid sees her.

She shouldn't have chere. I know she would get angry if she found out that Astrid was here, and I told her nothing about it, but I was more worried that her presence would only rile up Astrid's anger and hurt her.

Astrid had just lost her child, and she might have blamed Giselle for it. If Giselle were out of the picture, Astrid and I would still be married right now, and Astrid would be safe and still pregnant with our baby.

Giselle smiled excitedly when she sawcoming. She rushed towards me, oblivious to my anger. As soon as she cface to face with me, she instantly wrapped her arms around me, showing how much she's been yearning for me. However, instead of relieving all the tension and frustration I'd been feeling with the warmth of her embrace, I only turned tense within her arms.

"Killian, I've missed you so much," Giselle murmured, her voice soft and tremulous. couldn't stop thinking about you, cooped up in that house day after day. I had to cfind you, to be by your side," Giselle spoke with her head softly placed on my shoulder.

My jaw tightened as I held her by her arms and pushed her off me. Giselle looked atwith wide eyes. A hurt expression flashed in her features, but I wasn't affected by it. "What are you doing here? This is not a place where you should be," I snapped at her as I stared her down with a sharp gaze.

Giselle blinked. "I'm just worried about you, Killian. All day, I do nothing but sit around back at home. I chere to help you with your task. You can letdo anything. Maybe I can help distribute food, Giselle suggested with a hopeful gaze when they saw what we were doing back at the camp.

"You should go back home, Giselle. We don't need any more help around here," I pushed her back.

Giselle's brows bent downwards. "Con, Killian. I had just arrived here. We call the way to help you. Are you not going to let us stay even for today?" Giselle pleaded.

I took a deep breath and exhaled out all the air in my lungs as I faced her. "Go back, Giselle," I spoke coldly, making her gulp in fear. "Don't letask you twice. Giselle's jaw clenched when she saw that I was not going to let her have what she wanted.

Suddenly, her soft, pleading expression changed into a smug one. "You wantto leave for what?!" Giselle suddenly snapped. "So that you and Astrid could play house here?"
