Chapter 165 Chapter 165: Eileen took a few steps when suddenly, the back window of the car rolled up, leaving only a sliver of the driver's side window open. "Ms. Curtis, Mr. Dawson and I have brought your laptop. We won't be able to pack your luggage, though. Since you'll be tutoring Milford tonight, you can take care of it then," Raymond explained as he stepped out of the car and fetched Eileen's laptop bag from the trunk.
Eileen indeed needed her laptop. She had planned to work in the evening when she fetched it. But now, Raymond had retrieved it for her. Eileen took the laptop bag from Raymond and peered at the rear window, catching a glimpse of Bryan's silhouette.
"Thank you, Raymond." She smiled at him.
"No need to thank me. It was Mr. Dawson's idea," Raymond replied, his gaze also drawn to the sealed window. Realizing Bryan would remain silent, he bid Eileen goodbye, climbed back into the car, and drove off.
From inside the vehicle, Bryan's stern gaze lingered on the parked BMW, his deep eyes reflecting a chill. His attention shifted to the rearview mirror, where he saw Eileen clutching a bouquet of red roses. His expression hardened.
Upon returning to the education agency, Eileen handed the flowers to the receptionist. She then requested the receptionist to send Danielle to her office. She went back to her office and put the laptop bag on her desk. The bag seemingly carried a trace of Bryan's scent. Her frown deepened, her heart heavy.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtA knock at the door disrupted her thoughts. The receptionist entered with a resignation letter. "Ms. Curtis, Danielle had to leave urgently. She left this resignation letter and said she doesn't need her salary." Danielle had fled.
Eileen took the letter and placed it aside. “Okay. Please ask the other teachers to take Danielle's classes temporarily." Eileen had yet to decide on how to deal with Danielle. Since it was not a legal issue, she chose to let it go. Out of sight, out of mind.
Collecting herself, she started her work, her brows still knitted together. Later, at five, Denzel informed her he had a meeting with Bryan and would personally take Adalina to her lessons. Thus, Eileen gathered her belongings and headed straight to Pianoforte Villas.
Upon arrival, she found Denzel and Bryan in the living room, both wearing grave expressions. Bryan looked down, smoking, seemingly oblivious to Eileen's presence. Denzel acknowledged Eileen. "Adalina has already gone upstairs. They're waiting for you." "Alright, you two carry on," Eileen said and proceeded to the third floor to the study room. There, Milford lounged on a bean bag chair, fiddling with an old phone, while Adalina, ready with her study materials, occasionally glanced at him.
Spotting Eileen, Adalina quickly whispered to Milford, "Ms. Curtis is here. Stop playing." Milford reluctantly set aside his phone and sauntered over to the desk.
"I mentioned giving you two a small test last time. Let's do it today," Eileen said, ignoring Milford's dismay as she placed the test papers on the desk.
Milford complained, "We haven't had a lesson in a week, and now you're giving us a test?" "I've uploaded the study videos to the group chat. It's all review, no new topics. If you're not familiar with it, that's on you," Eileen replied firmly, sitting across from them.
With Eileen present, the option to cheat was off the table. In response, Milford and Adalina fell silent and began working diligently on their papers.
Eileen operated on a tight schedule-five days a week, two subject tests each day. By the end of the week, she would have a thorough understanding of their progress across all subjects. Her planning was meticulous, aimed at ensuring the achievement of desired results. During the ten-minute break, Eileen allowed them to drink water and use the restroom while she remained seated. She planned to pack up quickly once the session concluded, estimating it would take about ten minutes.
With twenty minutes remaining, Milford and Adalina submitted their papers. Adalina's paper was neatly completed and thorough, whereas Milford's was marked by many blank spaces and less thorough answers. Eileen spent just ten minutes grading both papers.
"Adalina, you scored 108 out of 120. Well done," she said. Scoring 108 was impressive, but considering this was Adalina's best subject, it was not surprising. Milford looked downcast and avoided eye contact. Eileen turned to him with a warm expression. "You scored 65. Every question you answered was correct. The blank ones are simply the ones that you don't know how to answer yet. Once you learn more, I'm sure you'll achieve a perfect score." Milford was visibly surprised by her encouragement. He had anticipated a critique of his performance.
"Why that look?" Eileen raised an eyebrow. "You've been away from school for a year. It's natural to forget sbasics or to be unfamiliar with more advanced material. You weren't expecting to score over a hundred, were you? Don't hold yourself to unattainable standards right now. Take it step by step." Adalina's eyes sparkled with admiration as she turned to Milford. "I noticed you solved a problem even I couldn't crack. That's impressive." "Then let Milford explain that question to you," Eileen suggested, handing them their papers.
Milford smirked as he accepted his paper. "It's really not that difficult. Letshow you..." The room was as bright as day, filled with Milford's slightly smug voice. When he occasionally stumbled in his explanation, he grew a tad irritable. Eileen would offer a subtle hint, helping him find his stride again. Within ten minutes, he had explained everything about that question clearly, and Adalina had understood it.
"Alright, class dismissed," Eileen announced, standing to gather her things.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"Goodbye, Ms. Curtis. I'm leaving with my dad," said Adalina, her school bag already slung over her shoulder. Eileen nodded and followed her downstairs, bag in hand, while Milford retreated to his room.
The downstairs area was brightly lit, the glow from the crystal chandelier enveloping both Bryan and Denzel. Upon hearing footsteps, Denzel stood up quickly. "Mr. Dawson, that's the situation. The White family sentbecause they feared you might be upset." Bryan extinguished his cigarette and nodded at him. "Understandable." "Alright, I'll be leaving then," Denzel said as he joined Adalina, taking her school bag. Then, he asked Eileen, "Ms. Curtis, it's late. How about I give you a ride home?" "No, thank you." Eileen quickly dismissed the offer with a wave of her hand. After a pause, she added, “I still need to get sthings, which will take a while. You go ahead." Upon hearing that, Denzel recalled his wife's words. He glanced between Bryan and Eileen before nodding. "Alright, goodbye then." He then left with Adalina.
The expansive living room was now occupied by only Eileen and Bryan. The once amicable atmosphere grew tense. Eileen, without looking up, said, "I'll go pack my things and leave right away." She turned and went into the room she had been using on the first floor, quickly packing her cosmetics and clothes.
Her suitcase was soon filled. While packing, she only had one thought in her mind: her absurd relationship with Bryan would end now. With the White family ready to invest and the project moving forward, Bryan would return to Onaland. Eileen looked forward to resuming her peaceful, busy life, yet a sense of emptiness lingered. After packing the last item, she zipped up her suitcase and set it down. When she turned around, she saw Bryan in the doorway. He leaned against the door frame, a cigarette between his fingers. The ash at the tip showed he had been there for a while.
"What? Leaving without saying goodbye?" Bryan's tone was edged with displeasure. To Eileen, his tone sounded harsh.
"Raymond's discharged. There's no reason forto stay. You know this, Mr. Dawson," Eileen said.
Hearing that, Bryan flicked his cigarette away. The butt sparked briefly as it hit the floor. He stepped closer, and Eileen stepped back. The smell of alcohol and smoke from Bryan was strong; Eileen suddenly recalled the red wine on the table earlier. She frowned and looked up at him. "You-" Bryan's arm encircled her waist, pulling her close for a kiss, his foot shutting the door with a kick. Pressed against the cold wall, Eileen felt the chill through her clothes, but Bryan's warmth countered the cold.
"What do you want to do?" Eileen managed to speak, turning her face to dodge another approaching kiss. Her rejection seemed to touch am nerve with Bryan. "You," he replied curtly. He switched off the light and drew her towards the bed, beginning to remove her coat. His hands moved to her shirt, unbuttoning one button, then suddenly tearing it open-the buttons scattering to the floor.
Before Eileen could react, he was at her jeans, unbuttoning and unzipping them quickly and roughly. Eileen was about to protest when footsteps e spunded outside-it was Milford. "Bryan?" Milford's voice cthrough. Eileen bit her lip, holding her breath and staying silent. When there was no response, Milford turned off the living room light, and his footsteps receded. Relieved for a moment, Eileen then realized she and Bryan were already naked. In the moonlit room, Bryan's eyes locked onto hers, her expression suddenly turning a bit painful. He had begun without warning.
