| frowned, feeling uneasy as | stared into his face. | ignored the first words he spoke, giving him another full look
to be sure | had never seen him anywhere else.
Tiara stirred within me, senses heightened. “Who are you?” | asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
The man’s smirk widened as he ran his gaze over me. “You don’t knowdo you?”
Before he could respond, a gasp echoed behind me. | turned to see mom standing a few feet behind me, her
eyes wide and face pale. She was so still that | feared she had stopped breathing.
“Mom?” | called out
She didn’t answer. She just stared at us in shock. | looked back at the man and at my mother again.
“Mom, do you know him?” | asked.
| was beginning to feel something strange stir up in me. | knew whatever was happening wasn’t going to sit too
well with me.
My mom made a strange sound in her throat. Her eyes started to tear up, and before | could say anything else,
she burst into
tears.
| was taken aback by it. | hurried over to her, holding her arms in my hand as | forced her to look at me.
“Mom, are you okay? What is wrong?”
She continued crying. | never thought | would see her cry more than she did the day before, but this seemed
worse.

| was still at a loss on what to do when my mother finally got herself together enough to speak.
“I'm so sorry Eden. | didn’t know he would...” She trailed off.
“Know what mom?” | looked back at the man who stared at us intently from the door, looking like he would

My mom nodded and sniffed. She took a moment to look away as if to gather her thoughts before she finally
looked atagain.
“I don’t know how I'm going to say this.” She mumbled.
| heard a frustrated sigh from behind me, and | could almost imagine the man rolling his eyes.
“Tell her, Rose.” He said.
| didn’t miss the familiarity in the way he called my mother’s name. Everything about this situation was making
queasy.
“He... he... Eden, he is your father.” My mom wailed.
| stopped breathing. Or maybe | was still breathing but | just couldn't tell, all I could think of at that moment was
that the man | had wanted to meet all my life was standing behind me.
My hands fell from my mother’s arm. | slowly turned and looked at him.

He still had that cocky smile on his face. He hadn’t moved much from his position. He pulled his hat away from
his head, and a beautiful mane of red hair very much like my own fell out in short waves.
“Won't you letin?” He asked.
I didn’t answer. | couldn't.
With a small nod, he walked in, his movements fluid and flawless like his looks. He gently settled on a couch,
placing his rod beside him.
He stretched a little, allowing his long length to take up most of the space.
He looked royal, like a king who knows his strength. | wasn’t sure how to approach him, how to feel about him or
what to do.
| observed him smore, his pale almost pristine white skin, his red hair that sharply contrasts with it and his
sharp facial features.
If this was the man my mother had a one night stand with, | could see the reason why.
It was obvious he was a vampire. Even if he was yet to showhis fangs.
As if reading my thoughts, he looked atand I shivered.
“Since that has been cleared, | should make a formal introduction.” He said. “My nis Lord Shevek.” He
smiled, his eyes warm “Please csit. | would like to have a proper conversation with you?”
Thesitated for a bit before | moved.
The closer | got to him, the more it felt like the temperature had dropped a little in the room. | shivered. With the
kind of aura he emanates, | didn’t need to be told he was a full blooded Vampire.
But | wasn’t scared. Despite how clean-cut, stiff, and polished he looked, he didn’t seem dangerous.... in a bad
way.
| felt a strange pull to him, a strange comfort. | felt entranced, the way | gravitated to him like a magnetic pull. |
couldn't stop it even if | tried, but | wasn’t trying to.
| wanted to go closer to him to have him embraceand comfort me.

Before | could move to sit on the couch beside him, my mother pushed her way in front of me.
“Eden, wait!” She called, pushingback a little. | frowned. My mother whirled around to face Lord Shevek.
“How dare you walk into my own huninvited? Why are you here? We don’t need you. Leave! Go away from
us! Did you think I will just let you strut in and take my daughter away?”
Lord Shevek chuckled, sending a shiver down my spine. In an instant, like the speed of light, he appeared behind
my mother and whispered “boom” in her ear.
My mother stumbled with a loud shriek. She grabbed her chest in desperation, eyes closed.
Lord Shevek laughed, his voice booming across the room. Despite how serious the situation should have been, |
found myself letting out a laugh.
My mom glared atin anger, and my smile died down.
Then she glared at Lord Shevek who raised one hand in surrender.
“I cin peace, Rose.” Then he moved closer, his eyes becoming colder but his smile never wavering. “But if
you refuse to be civil about this, | will take what | cfor. And you can’t stop me.”
