MISTAKE 231
Chapter 231: Family feuds
Stone bridge was a stretch of land that span across three large lakes. This was the vacation hof the capital
city's biggest families. It was said that this is where most economic waves were made and a family was only
truly made when they owned a hon lake bridge. The Grey family had soon received news that their son,
James Grey is back. But such information was easy to gain in Stone bridge. The relationship between families
were delicate so people moved carefully. But a clear line had been formed. Between James Grey and others.
James Grey's son in laws had dragged the Madison and the Shaw families to their side, as well as those who were
friends of theirs, like the Green family. And those against them would not end well. Those families were already
the pinnacle of influence in the country.
What bothered most families is that the enemies where still in the dark. They did not want to unconsciously cross
James. But those who had crossed, like the stone family needed something big to get them out.
What many did not know was that things were about to get more complicated for more families as Marcus Green,
James Grey's god son had not yet arrived at stone bridge despite his schedule.
On one night returning from an interview, Hazel, daughter estranged daughter of the Steele family strolled into a
part of the nearest city to stone bridge. She had never been to before. Something suddenly fell from the sky,
slamming into her. She struggled to stand up only to find someone heavy on her. It was a man.
She suddenly heard shooting. The sounds felt close, making her stiffen in fear.
She suppressed the urge to scream despite her almost bursting heart and looked down to find a person. Even in
the dark, she could still make out the form of a man's broad shoulders covered in a Grey coat.
The man let out a low groan in pain and gripped tighter to her, but Hazel only wanted to get out of there. She
pushed him off her and tried to stand, but his hand held to her.
"Let go!" she said though her teeth, but his grip was like a steel clam and her weak hands could not pry them off

In her slight moment of pause, she noticed there was silence and nothing else. She could not even hear wind
drift by. Her body froze and she lowered herself slowly to a squat.
The man groaned again and she could tell he was in pain. Even though she was grateful he was alive, she hoped
he would shut up.
"Shh... f you don't shut up and | will leave you here," she shushed the man below. The next second, her phone
rang in her purse, echoing through the street, almost giving her making her soul jump to heaven in fear.
She pulled out her phone from her purse and silenced it quickly. It was an unknown number. She picked it in
hopes that if something happened to her, the person on the other line would
hear.
"I have arrived ma'am, please cout," she heard a man's unfamiliar voice rang out to her
ears.
"Who has arrived?" she asked.
"Are you not the one who called for a taxi? | am here where are you?" he asked impatiently.
"Oh, drive forward, | will be out in a while. | am almost at the express," she said and the man snorted slightly and
the line went dead.
Hazel had no choice now but to take him to the hospital.
"We need to leave, we can't stay here. You can cwithor stay here, but | am leaving," she said. This was
her only concession. She steeled her heart and told her self that the shooting ending means it was safe now.
Words she barely believed. The man let go of her ankle and she let helped him stand. If he had not pulled himself
up, she would not have been able to help him.
"I have a taxi waiting. We need to get there soon," Noticing his swaying form, she lent her body for him to lean
on and they staggered out of the alley.
Soon, she heard a car sound in the distance and walked out into the open road. Seeing the taxi sign, she waved
at the car till it stopped before them. She helped him into the back seat as quickly as she could and jumped in
after him.
"Go to the nearest hospital, hurry!" she shouted to the driver.
"No hospital," the man spoke softly, but she could still hear him.
"You are bleeding!" she insisted.
"Where then?" the taxi driver asked.
"Just drive! Did you not hear the gun shots as you entered?" she asked and he suddenly panicked and stepped
on the gas.
"Gun shots? | was wearing my earpiece." the driver muttered under his breath in regret as the car pulled away. If
he had known there was a shooting, he would not have come.
"Castle hospital," she heard the man say and nodded.
"Castle hospital," she instructed the driver.
"Hey! Don't close your eyes, tellwho you are!" she called to him over and over again, while shaking him to
wake.

"Marcus," he said and closed his eyes. This made her panic as his skin was cold to the touch. She placed her
hand over his nose and only relaxed when she felt his breath on her palm. She felt around through his clothes

It did not take long for them to arrive at a hospital.
In the emergency room, they cut off his bloody clothes and Hazel felt numb just seeing all the blood she had not
noticed before. Sure she had been able to smell blood on him, but she did not know he was this injured.
She looked away hurriedly till a doctor approached her, "He is unconscious," he said, "He was shot, Do you know
what happened? We need to inform the police."
"The police?" Hazel asked, there was nothing she avoided more than the police. If the police was called, her
father would know where she was
"Ah, we went shooting,"
"Shooting?" the doctor asked with a skeptical look.
"We have a shooting ring at home," she said uncomfortably. She already knew if the police came, as the one who
brought him in, she will be tracked down even if she left him here,
"A shooting ring?" the nurse beside him asked.
"Yes, there was an unfortunate accident. Just save his life, we will call the police if we need it..." she said coldly.
She knew it was protocol to cal the police for a gun shot wound, but she hoped for a miracle. "We still need to..."
the nurse started to say, when the doctor stopped her.
"Of course. We will make sure to save his life," he said.
She could see that the doctor writing away look up slightly and back down. She felt that he had suddenly
becrespectful.
"We are setting him up in a ward. Please go over and pay fill the form while we do so." he gestured in a direction,
while handing her a,slip and she thanked him and left in that direction.
