Umbled, but out
Randolph regained his balance. “You're asking for trouble!” Randolph shouted, swinging the baseball
but at Eliza
Out of nowhere, Christopher on the floor lunged at Randolph, knocking him down. He pinned Randolph's arm and
then turned to Eliza, yelling. “Run!”
Eliza hesitated for a moment, then stood up. But instead of running, she grabbed the bat and swung it at
Randolph's head.
With a sharp thud, Randolph collapsed, knocked out cold.
Since she was a girl, she didn’t hit him that hard. There was no blood, just a faint mark on his forehead. He was
unconscious, but that was about it.
Both of them exhaled in relief. Eliza took a shaky breath, her eyes still red from the shock.
Her face was pale, but she didn’t hesitate to help Christopher into the wheelchair. “How's your leg? You're still
recovering, so you can't afford to get hurt again. Are you feeling okay? You need to letknow if something's
wrong.”
Christopher shook his head. “I'm fine. But what are you doing here?”
Eliza had been finding reasons to visit him often lately, mostly under the guise of bringing medicine. This time, it
was no different.
She grabbed the bag she had dropped on the floor. “I brought you your meds, and since it’s the new year, |
made you sgnocchi.”
Her eyes were bright with excitement, almost like she was glowing, and it made Christopher feel like he was
burning up

He turned his gaze away, uncomfortable. “Thanks,” he muttered.
Eliza didn’t seem to care about the scar on his face. She was just as cheerful as usual. She put the gnocchi in the
fridge and then looked at him. “Should we call the police?”
Christopher didn’t answer right away. Instead, he looked at her, then slowly asked, “Aren’t you afraid of me?”
“Why would | be?” Eliza asked, confused.
He pointed to his face, a bitter smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. This is the real me. A messed-up, ugly
guy. I've always known how I look, but I kept hiding it, protecting my fragile ego.
“Over time, | tricked myself into thinking I could actually have something that wasn’t meant for me.”
Eliza walked over and knelt in front of Christopher. Her eyes were soft, locking onto his face as she spoke slowly.
“No, Christopher. You can’t keep putting yourself down like this.
“You need to see yourself for who you really are. Sure, speople look great on the outside, but their hearts
are ugly. Don’t let your appearance define you. It’s who you are inside that counts.
Christopher's gaze darkened. He whispered, “What if my heart's just as bad as my
face?
Eliza shook her head, her voice gentle but firm. “I don’t believe that for a second. She reached out, grabbing his
hand, her grip warm and full of trust.
Christopher looked at her, feeling a lump form in his throat. “Actually, | used to-

“Don’t,” Eliza cut him off, taking a deep breath. | already know you like Hailey. Maybe you've done sthings
you regret for her, but | don’t need you to tell me.”
She wasn't 100% sure, but her gut told her she was right.
Christopher looked at her, his gaze softening. Eliza's face was flushed from crying, her eyes red.
Before he could say anything more, Eliza's gaze suddenly shifted. Her eyes widened, and she pushed
Christopher's wheelchair away with all her strength.
But it was already too late.
Out of nowhere, Randolph appeared, a knife in hand. Without any warning, he stabbed Eliza in the chest,
Christopher was frozen, his whole body trembling as he fell out of the wheelchair. His vision blurred, and all he
could see was the blood spreading across Eliza's chest. His voice caught in his throat, unable to make a sound.
Everything happened so fast.
Then there was a loud bang at the door. Owen and Hailey rushed in, along with the police.
Eliza's vision faded, and she could feel herself slipping away. The only thing she could hold onto, even as
everything went black, was the warm hand still holding hers.
The police rushed in, taking control of the situation, while medical staff quickly moved both Christopher and Eliza
onto
stretchers.
The New Year turned into a complete disaster.
Hailey didn’t want to worry Thomas, especially with his age, so she just told him she would be staying with the
Medrano family for a couple of days. He didn’t ask any questions, and that was the end of it.
Luckily, the incision wasn’t too deep, and it didn’t damage her liver. After the surgery, Eliza was kept under
observation for a while but could be moved to a regular ward with no issues.
Hailey was a bit shocked by how much closer Eliza and Christopher had becafter everything. They looked
like they were really together now, which was probably the only good thing to cout of the mess.
Hailey stood by the ward door, leaning against the glass as she watched them inside.
Christopher had ditched the fake mask and was now letting his scars out. He was sitting in a wheelchair, feeding

soup.
It was just the two of them in the room, and everything felt calm and peaceful.
Hailey chuckled softly. “Wow. Who would've thought? | remember Eliza literally crying and saying she would
never marry him.”
Owen picked her up off the stool. “You've been staring at them forever. When are you gonna start looking at your
boyfriend?” He sounded jealous.
Hailey smirked and turned toward him. I'm looking at you now. W
your problem?”
Owen just clenched his jaw, clearly annoyed at his insensitive girlfriend
Hailey rolled her eyes, finding his jealousy pretty ridiculous. She glanced back into the room and couldn't help
but smile. “It’s really nice to see. | hope they get together for real”
Owen, clearly fed up, picked her up and carried her away.

“Hey!” Hailey yelped, burying her face in his chest. She could feel all the eyes on them in the hospital and was
suddenly super embarrassed. “Putdown!”
Owen squeezed her hand, still a little annoyed. “What do you expect, staring at them like that?”
Owen justified his action, feeling it was because Christopher had been into her before. Meanwhile, Hailey
laughed quietly. “Jealous?”
Owen didn’t answer. As they passed a couple of nurses, one of them spotted them and said, “Sir, there's a
wheelchair here” The nurse must've thought Hailey’s leg was hurt.
Hailey wanted to sink into the floor from embarrassment and hid her face even more in Owen's chest.
Yet, Owen didn’t even break a sweat. He replied flatly, “My girlfriend's leg is fine. Then he walked past the nurse,
leaving her speechless. It was almost as if he was showing off.
