Chapter 228

"Why do you keep saying 'thank you’, aren't you tired?" Finnian glanced at her again.

He led Amara to a nearby rock, gesturing for her to sit. As he looked at her slender back, he shrugged off his suit

jacket and draped it over her shoulders.

Amara's eyes widened as the warmth of the jacket enveloped her. Suddenly, the chill she felt seemed to vanish.

Despite the comfort, she felt a twinge of anxiety and quickly tried to give it back. "Mr. Everly, there's no need,

I'm not cold."

"Wear it," Finnian interrupted, wrapping the jacket back around her shoulders. He glanced at her bare arms.

"You're having goosebumps even. Don't tellyou're not cold."

His voice was gentle but carried a tone of authority that brooked no argument. Amara hesitated. She hadn't

expected him to not only cto her rescue but also offer his jacket. Finnian seemed exceptionally nice to her.

Given the situation, though, this was good as she knew she needed it more than he did. She was at risk of

catching a cold without it, while Finnian, in his long- sleeved shirt, seemed to fare better in the chilly air. Hence,

she didn't refuse.

In the dimly lit cavern, the divorced couple sat side by side on a rock barely big enough for the two of them, their

bodies almost touching. After a while, Amara found herself feeling a bit uncomfortable.

She stared at the dark ground beneath them, asking, "Mr. Everly, what were you trying to tellwhen you

called?"

"Nothing much," Finnian replied nonchalantly. "You disappeared, and | just wanted to know where you'd gone."

Amara found his response puzzling. Why was he concerned about her absence? If they had been friends, she

might understand the check-in, but apparently, they weren't.

"Are you cold?" Finnian asked again.

"No, I'm fine," Amara quickly replied.

Finnian ignored her response,

casting another glance at her. His jacket was draped over her, not worn properly, leaving her arms exposed. He

could clearly catch the goosebumps on her skin. He reached out, his hand closing over her forearm, the skin icy

to the touch. "You call this fine?"

Silent, Amara felt a flush of embarrassment. Why was he suddenly being so tactile? He didn't treat other women

like this. Was it because they used to be married, hence the frequent skin contact?

But they had been merely a couple in name; even if they'd had real conjugal relations, they were divorced now.

She pulled her arm back, awkwardly insisting, "Mr. Everly, there's no need to worry, really. I'm not cold."

"Don't callthat," Finnian said softly, opening his arms and pulling her into his embrace. "I'll keep you warm."

Amara's heart skipped a beat. Held

tightly in his warm, strong arms, she froze, unsure of how to react. Why the sudden hug? Was Finnian really

doing this just to keep her warm? He wasn't usually this caring.

"Still cold?" he asked, as if genuinely concerned.

Amara shook her head, her fingers lightly pressing against his shoulder. "Mr.

Everly, I'm not cold. There's no need for this."

Ignoring her words, Finnian murmured, "Don't be so formal with me."

Amara was baffled. She'd always addressed him politely, even during their marriage, and he'd never seemed to

mind. Why the change now? Was he becoming more particular after the divorce?

Though his embrace was undeniably warm, this wasn't a solution. Amara tried again, "Mr. Everly, really, you

don't have to do this, your jacket is enough."
