The Novel imagines a human life around a brief Gospel encounter. The central figure's early hunger, relationships, work, and growing obligations give the familiar question of wealth a lived context. Readers encounter a person who has reasons to be proud of what he provides and reasons to fear losing it.
The book's imagined biography is distinct from Scripture. The underlying encounter is recorded in Matthew 19, Mark 10, and Luke 18. A discussion can consider the literary choices while preserving that boundary.
