That combination makes the story's question difficult: what happens when providing for others becomes inseparable from needing to control their future? A reader can understand why a person holds tightly to what has kept a household safe. Understanding that motive does not settle whether the person can release it.
Read the person and the work with care
A biography establishes the author's public background. A Novel invites interpretation. Readers need both without treating a character as a disguised personal confession or an imagined scene as a fact about the author's life.
